Senator Don DeWitte Launches 6th Annual “Valentines for Seniors” Card Drive

As the new year begins, State Senator Don DeWitte (R–St. Charles) is once again inviting the community to take part in his annual “Valentines for Seniors” card drive, a simple but meaningful way to spread kindness and connection to local seniors.

DeWitte is asking students from public and private schools, church groups, scouting organizations, and other community groups to create handmade Valentine’s Day cards and drawings. Individual residents are also welcome to participate. The cards will be delivered during the week of Valentine’s Day to assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and long-term care centers throughout the 33rd Senate District.

“This program is a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference,” said DeWitte. “For many seniors, receiving a handmade card lets them know someone took the time to think about them, and that sense of connection truly matters.”

Now in its sixth year, the Valentines for Seniors card drive continues to grow as more community members participate each year.

“Every year we see incredible creativity and generosity from our local students and organizations,” DeWitte added. “Delivering these cards and seeing the reaction from residents is very rewarding.”

Cards and drawings can be dropped off or mailed through February 6 at DeWitte’s legislative offices. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with secure outdoor drop boxes available during evenings and weekends.

“Loneliness can be especially difficult for seniors during the winter months,” DeWitte said. “A simple card can lift spirits and remind them they are a valued part of our community.”
