Senator DeWitte Secures Over $109 Million for Major Road and Bridge Investments in the 33rd District

State Senator Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles) has secured more than $109.4 million in state funding for major road and bridge projects throughout the 33rd District in northern Kane and southern McHenry Counties. The funding, supporting both state and local highway improvements, is part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Multi-Year Program, made possible through the bipartisan Rebuild Illinois Capital Program.

“IDOT is making a major investment in this region, and every community I represent will benefit from the upcoming improvement projects,” said Senator DeWitte, who serves as the Minority Spokesperson for the Senate Transportation Committee. “I am thrilled to see this level of investment being made in the 33rd District.”

Statewide, IDOT will invest $50.6 billion between 2026 and 2031. Of that total, $72.4 million is earmarked for state highway projects within the 33rd District, and $36.9 million is designated for local highway projects in the area.

“These improvements will make travel safer, strengthen local infrastructure, and support our communities for years to come,” DeWitte added. “They represent an important win for families, farmers, and businesses that depend on reliable and safe roads.”

According to DeWitte, 33 projects within the 33rd Senate District will receive funding over the next six years, with 16 projects scheduled for funding in 2026. Among the state highway investments, improvements are planned for U.S. Highway 20 and Illinois Routes 25, 31, 47, 64, and 72. Local roadway projects will take place in Carpentersville, East Dundee, Elburn, Elgin, Sleepy Hollow, South Elgin, and West Dundee.

DeWitte highlighted one project he has long championed, a $3 million investment in lighted intersection improvements at Route 38 and Anderson Road in Elburn. “As Elburn has grown, this intersection has become particularly dangerous,” said DeWitte. “This improvement will have a lasting impact on safety and traffic flow through this growing part of the suburbs.” To view a full list of projects included in IDOT’s six-year Highway Improvement Program for the 33rd District, click here.
