DeWitte: Speaker Madigan should be held to highest standard, must resign

Springfield, IL… State Senator Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles), in addition to requests being by his Republican and Democrat colleagues in both chambers, is calling for Speaker Madigan’s resignation amid the recent ComEd bribery scheme. Sen. DeWitte releases the following statement:

“It’s no secret that the Illinois political atmosphere is wrought with corruption. The accusations implicating Speaker Madigan just go to prove that corruption is taking place even at the highest level of state government.

“Recently, we have seen several similar allegations of ethical misconduct against other members of the Illinois General Assembly, who have resigned after calls from the Governor and legislative colleagues. It should be no different for Speaker Madigan. In fact, with the power and influence that he holds as Speaker, he should be held to an even higher standard.

“The statements released by ComEd are extremely disturbing. Illinois ratepayers and taxpayers deserve better from the companies and elected officials that serve them. In fact, the $200 million that ComEd has agreed to pay should go directly back to the Illinois ratepayers, who were duped into subsidizing these purported illegal payments and bribes.”
