LIHEAP to accept applications from seniors, people with disabilities beginning Oct. 1
State Senator Donald P. DeWitte (R-St. Charles) says individuals will soon be able to schedule appointments and submit applications for the state’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Those accepted to the program will receive financial assistance to heat their homes during the winter months.
“As we approach the colder months, it’s important that our seniors and low-income families are taken care of,” said Sen. DeWitte. “Keeping the power on for individuals who can’t afford to pay their energy bill can be the difference between life and death.”
Beginning October 1, appointments and applications are first available to seniors and people with disabilities. Disconnected households and families with children ages 5 or under can begin applying for LIHEAP assistance beginning November 1, and all other individuals can apply beginning December 1. LIHEAP applicants will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.
